Mental Health Awareness Week isn’t just about awareness. It’s about leadership. If you’re a CEO or Business owner, ask yourself:

When was the last time your teams felt heard, without having to ask for it?

Would they say the same?

At Road to Success Consultancy, we work with leaders who are ready to move beyond surface-level support because mental wellbeing at work starts with you.

The Hidden Cost of Not Listening

Mental health challenges don’t announce themselves. They show up as missed meetings, late logins, and quiet disengagement.

Most people won’t spell it out. They assume no one’s asking.

Generic wellbeing programmes won’t catch what’s unspoken, because mental health is personal. What helps one person may not be the right help for another.

If you’re not actively listening, you’re missing what matters most.

Listening is a Leadership Skill.

One that:

Puts away distractions
Holds a non-judgmental space
Holds space for silence
Reflects what was said
Asks, “What do you need right now?”

When someone opens up, it’s a test:

Can I trust you with this?

The honest answer isn’t what you say, it’s what you do next.

Whether you remember. Whether they have to tell you again.
People notice. Always.

Culture Starts at the Top

Mental health doesn’t begin in HR; it starts in the boardroom.
Your behaviour sets the tone.
Model openness, and others will follow.
Show vulnerability, and your team feels safe to do the same.
Trust is built when no one’s watching.

What You Can Do Today

Model Vulnerability- Share your journey, even the messy parts
Invest in Coaching- Coach your leaders to listen to understand
Have flexibility- Let people choose how they access support
Measure what matters- Track safety and trust, not just outputs
Build feedback - Make sure people know they’ve been heard

These indicate a culture that leads instead of reacting.

The Real Road to Success

At RTSC, listening is the foundation of transformation. When leaders really listen, people take ownership of their well-being.

They stay engaged, build resilience, and perform at their best.

Most won’t say this out loud:

But when you listen differently, they show up differently. This isn’t about blame, it’s about the opportunity to lead with impact.

Before your next meeting, ask yourself:

Will I speak first, or listen first?

How you start sets the tone for everything.

Because it starts with you!
